JOB SUMMARY: Serves as a patient advocate assuring the delivery of music therapy, while meeting legal, ethical and institutional standards and adhering to the mission, policies and procedures of the department and organization. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: · Provides music therapy services to referred patients. · Administers music therapy evaluation appropriate to the age, culture, condition, and occupational role of the patient. · Implements music therapy treatment plans based on music therapy theory and utilizing musical therapy techniques appropriate to the age, culture, condition, and occupational role of the patient. · Documents clinical observations, treatment, and results of music therapy evaluations in the patient’s medical record. · Communicates to patient, peers, family members, students, and team members regarding occupational therapy related information. · Participates in discharge planning, develops and provides home programs and patient/family education appropriate to the age, culture, condition, and occupational role of the patient. · Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS: · Initiates/participates in program planning, development and presentation, including quality assurance, research, in-services and publication. · Attends/represents music therapy at rounds, conferences, clinics and meetings as appropriate and assigned. · Performs related duties as assigned REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from a program approved by the National Association of Music Therapists. EQUIPMENT: Standard office equipment. Skilled in the use of a variety of musical instruments and audio/video equipment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION: Standard clinical environment. May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, harmful chemicals and/or disoriented or combative patients. Alertness and careful attention to detail are required to avoid injury. Must be able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex and/or changing activities. OTHER: Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and there by subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
