JOB SUMMARY:

To support the implementation of the Patient Classification System for UTMB Nursing Services by monitoring the accuracy of patient acuity ratings, developing data reports, providing feedback to nursing leadership and assisting with staff education.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Audits 25 patient days/shifts per unit per month on inpatient medical records following a statistical sampling technique.
  • Audits units on a rotating basis to ensure that all units are audited at least every two months.
  • Completes variance detail for each day/shift audited, audit summary report for each unit.   Copies and distributes Patient Day Acuity audit, variance detail, Audit Summary Report to specified nurse manager for each unit completed.
  • Analyzes audit results and provides feedback to nurse managers on individual and system issues identified in the analysis.
  • Teaches the acuity system to nursing staff through periodic updates and unit consultations.
  • Manages the testing of electronic acuity auditing system.
  • Assists with updating Acuity “Terms and Definitions” for the acuity rating documentation tool when necessary.
  • Develops Policy and Procedure manual for the acuity auditing process.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

High school or equivalent and one year related experience. Registered Records Administrator (RRA), Accredited Record Technician (ART), or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR). 

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard office environment.  Vision, hearing, talking and sense of touch abilities must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from medical records, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral and written communication.  Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to accurately perform calculations and compile reports.
