JOB SUMMARY:
The Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist
works under the direct supervision of the Program Manager for Assistive
Disability Services (ADS). The O&M Specialist supports the achievement of
completion of activities of daily living for vision disabled clients being
serviced by the program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Contributes to the success of UTMB Managed
Care Operation.

Conducts assessments and provides
recommendations for training.

With the Program Manager of ADS,
establishes training goals for each client.

Teaches Orientation and Mobility skills.

Teaches Independent Livings Skills.
-
Develops visual and/or tactile maps.
-
Teaches clients to independently traverse
and to access services and programs.

Writes monthly reports and provides
progress reports.

Coordinates O&M Training with other ADS
Team Members.

Attends Admission Review and Dismissal
(ARD) meetings.

Documents in electronic medical records as
required.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting
structure.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited
University or College in the field of Education, Psychology, Sociology or a
relate field with certification in Orientation & Mobility.

(1) One year work experience in providing
orientation and mobility services preferred.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
Standard
office, patient care, residential and school environments. May be required to
work varying hours to accommodate Orientation & Mobility Services and/or
Independent Living Skills Training.
OTHER:
Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to
this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby
subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
