JOB SUMMARY:

To coordinate anesthesia services and provide advanced technical skills in the preparation of all anesthesia equipment used during surgical and related medical procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assists in preparing operating rooms for complex anesthesia procedures.

• Interacts and communicates with physicians, support staff, and other health care professionals to facilitate departmental operations.
• Maintains ability to calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot biomedical electronic equipment pertinent to performing invasive procedures. 
• Utilizes problem-solving skills to recognize and solve technical problems.
• Operates, primes, cleans, and maintains a variety of cell separator equipment, cell saver, and other equipment used in apheresis and in surgical blood salvage.
• Provides assistance to anesthesia in maintaining sterile field, proper set up, and handling equipment used for invasive procedures and monitoring.
• Operates blood gas analysis when appropriate.
• Provides appropriate set up and educates others in the maintenance, cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of all equipment materials, and accessories used in the department of anesthesia.
• Prepares rooms and assembles, transports, and sets up equipment.
• Ensures endoscopy scope cleaning manual is in compliance with JCAHO standards.
• Ensures all endoscopy equipment is repaired as necessary.
• Maintains inventory records and orders, stores, and distributes anesthesia supplies, drugs, and equipment.
• Assists Anesthesiologist as necessary.
• Provides immediate supervision for assigned shift.
• Responsible for orientation and training staff.
• Assists in patient care.
• Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

High school or equivalent.  Graduation from an accredited Anesthesia Technician training program or  four years experience as a surgical or Anesthesia Technician in an operation room or clinic.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment. Standard anesthesia procedure equipment. Knowledge of indication and dosages of indicated drugs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard operating room, recovery room, intensive care environment, and special procedures areas. May be exposed to hazards resulting from toxic, explosive and inflammable gases.
