Job Summary:

To coordinate the most efficient transportation mode for each patient. Work is performed under the direction of the EMS Operations officer, with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative within limits of established policies and procedures.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Coordinates medically related transfers of patients from sending to receiving facilities based on triage information received about the patient.
  • Operates computer terminal to input patient information, vehicle status, and crew assignments.
  • Gathers and records information related to the level of care actually required during transfer (based on patient’s medical condition.)
  • Dispatches appropriate resources to complete patient transfers in the most cost-effective manner that ensures appropriate level of care en route.
  • Collects information related to vehicle maintenance, repair costs, outside vendor utilization, and other operational statistical data as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Required Education / Experience:

High school or equivalent. Current certification as an EMT-Basic from the Texas Department of Health.

Equipment: 

Standard office equipment.

Working Environment:

Standard clinic setting within a correctional facility.
