Job Summary:
To provide semi-professional skills needed to determine the optimal method for
distributing the radiation dose to patients under the supervision of the medical
physicist.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Performs calculations of radiation delivery either manually or by computer.
- Performs external beam treatment planning to include: open beam combinations,
wedged beams, rotation fields, arc fields, electron beams, summation or
composite plans, manual contour or CT-based plans, and 3-D treatment planning.
- Performs quality assurance of machines and equipment.
- Performs brachytherapy to include handling, loading / unloading, protection
surveys and computer dose distribution calculations.
- Performs quality assurance of treatment record to include verifying compliance
record with prescription, correct errors in days, fractions, dose delivered,
recalculate MU's to follow prescription.
- Teaches all aspects of dosimetry to medical students, radiation therapy students
and radiation therapy residents.
- Consults on all aspects of dosimetry i.e. supervises the verification of
treatment plans, reviews external planning options with faculty and residents,
reviews brachytherapy loading options with faculty and residents and other
miscellaneous dosimetry consults.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Education/ Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in physics and two years related experience or Certified
Radiation Therapist and two years related experience.
Equipment:
- Cobalt-60.
- Betatron and linear accelerator.
- Small shop tools and electronic test equipment.
- Standard office equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard radiotherapy treatment environment.
