JOB SUMMARY:

To provide patient care and technical skills in the operation of ultrasound diagnostic equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Practices proper entries and records on Radiology Information System and Hospital Information System.
  • Prepares patient for ultrasound procedure by accurately assessing patient’s needs and providing patient education. (See attached age-specific addendum)
  • Operates ultrasound equipment for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
  • Prepares patient’s films for interpretation by radiologist.
  • Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
  • Practices safety measures in ultrasound and Environment of Care.
  • Participates in research projects.
  • Instructs students on clinical ultrasound skills.
  • Applies the profession’s code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and direction to other ultrasound personnel when required.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree or radiologic graduate and two years related experience. Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program and ARDMS registered. Two years of ultrasound experience or graduate of a ultrasound training program with minimum of 3000 clinical hours of ultrasound training.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard ultrasound and office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard hospital environment.  Some lifting, moving, and positioning of patients and equipment. 

OTHER:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
