JOB SUMMARY:

Directs the evaluation, development, coordination, and implementation of physical therapy intervention to patients in order to maximize each patient’s functional ability.  Serves as a patient advocate assuring the delivery of physical therapy meets legal, ethical, and institutional standards while adhering to the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department and organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Evaluates potential of patient to derive benefit from physical therapy services.
  • Consults with physicians regarding patient evaluation and treatment programs.
  • Plans and administers treatment programs.
  • Sets priorities in patient treatment.
  • Initiates plans for post-hospital physical therapy care of patient.
  • Participates in rounds with physicians.
  • Participates in clinic management decisions.
  • Evaluates performance of personnel assigned to unit.
  • Assists in training support personnel.
  • Initiates and/or participates in specific research endeavors of the clinic.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

·        Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in related field and one year related experience.  Licensed or eligible for license in the State of Texas.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard physical therapy equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Standard physical therapy environment.

OTHER:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
