JOB SUMMARY:
To provide supervision, training, and advanced technical skills
necessary to perform polysomnographic evaluations (sleep studies), MSLT, and
oximetry studies as related to the investigation of sleep disorders in the
Pulmonary Sleep Laboratory.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs diagnostic and
therapeutic testing on pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
to ascertain presence or absence of dysfunction.

Schedules and interviews
patients.

Places monitoring equipment
including electrocardiogram, electromyogram, electroencephalogram,
electrooculogram electrodes, transnasal esophageal catheters, and inductive
plethysmograph.

Uses various amplifiers to
process electrical signals for recording.

Monitors and maintains
quality of signals recorded during overnight testing.

Interprets sleep study
results and writes draft of final report.

Maintains Sleep Lab equipment
and supplies.

Performs portable monitoring
studies on in-patients.

Provides CPAP and/or BiPAP
therapy as requested for in-patients.

Assists patients as necessary
and performs follow-ups.

Instructs patients on the use
of NAPP device and provides other patient education.

Supervises and trains
assigned personnel in all phases of sleep diagnostics.

Adheres to internal controls
established for department.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a health related
field or equivalent. Two years of experience. Certified in basic life support
by the American Heart Association. Must be eligible for RRT (Registered
Respiratory Therapist) or RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) exam.

Computer systems, Respitrace Monitor, Pneumotachometers, BiPAP/CPAP
Devices, 12 Lead ECG, Pressure Transducers, Pulse Oximeters, Video Monitoring
Equipment, Vital Sign Monitors, Portable Recording System, Recording Devices,
Water Manometer, Polygraph, Microphones, Thermisters, Transcutaneous CO2
Monitor, End Tidal CO2 Monitor.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard pulmonary sleep
laboratory and general patient care units.

Exposed to considerable
patient contact.

May be exposed to such
occupational hazards as communicable diseases.

Some moderately heavy lifting
required.

Some lifting or assisting of
non-ambulatory patients required.

May be exposed to
uncooperative or disruptive patients.

Specific
