JOB SUMMARY: 

To provide assistance in the direction of information and clinical services for the Texas Poison Center. 

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: 

  • Provides advanced experience in all phases of toxicology and poison control.
  • Provides information about poison prevention programs.
  • Assesses the needs of patients and directs management of the Poison Center's role in treatment of patients.
  • Acts in conjunction with the Director to establish criteria for quality of services provided.
  • Assists in interviewing prospective staff members.
  • Evaluates new toxicology information sources.
  • Assists in revision and evaluation of treatment protocols.
  • Functions as a consultant for staff on an "on call" basis.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Performs related duties as required. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or advanced degree in pharmacology / toxicology or Registered Nurse in Texas with bachelor's degree in nursing and 2 years of poison control experience.  Registration by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

EQUIPMENT: 

Standard office equipment. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Standard office environment.  Required to work rotating shifts including weekends.
