JOB SUMMARY: 

To provide advanced professional services for the Texas Poison Center concerning poisoning problems. 

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: 

• Answers questions about poisoning from health professionals and the general public for the Texas Poison Center's twenty-four hour per day statewide "hot line".
• Gathers available information about the possible poisoning material, such as the type and quantity of the material consumed.
• Also gathers general information concerning age, height, weight, and general health.
• Assimilates this information, makes diagnostic decisions, and recommends treatment regarding the poisoning problem.
• Adheres to internal controls established for department.
• Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and one year of poison control experience. Eligible for Texas Licensure.

EQUIPMENT: 

Standard office equipment. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Standard office environment.  Required to work rotating shifts including weekends.
