Job Summary:
Serve as a team leader for others engaged in ministry within the inpatient setting. Assist in the management of resources (financial and human), provide leadership, and facilitate the realization of departmental and university mission.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Provides quality spiritual care and support to patients and families, in relation to the patient’s diagnosis, treatment, age group, culture, and faith life. Respects the rights and needs of all patients, including those who refuse spiritual care.

Provides individual and group in-service education on topics related to the interface of health and spiritual well being.

Serves as a mentor and colleague to others (lay and clergy) involved in UTMB ministry.

Assists with program development. May include policy development, grant writing, work with local churches, and committee assignments.

Works with and supports training programs for clergy and lay chaplains as appropriate to mission.

Develops liaison relationships with area postural care programs, especially those which offer Clinical Pastoral Education
(CPE) and training programs for clergy and lay ministers.
Required Education / Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or seminary degree with ecclesiastical endorsement through ordination. Clinical Pastoral Education with minimum of five years healthcare chaplain experience.

Working Environment:

Standard hospital, clinic, office, and community environments.

Moderate physical effort may be required such as: walking, standing, and driving to off-campus locations.

Vision, hearing, speech, and sense of touch must be adequate to allow reading small print, computer screens, defining details, and sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication.

Shift, weekend, and on-call work may be required.

Able to work in stressful situations and cope with changing and competing demands.
