JOB SUMMARY:

To provide the administrative and technical skills necessary to manage a major patient service laboratory division.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the manager with the management of the human and financial resources of a major laboratory division.
  • Develops, in conjunction with the Division Director(s), the administrative policies for the laboratory division.
  • Coordinates personnel schedules, student rotations, and in-service education activities.
  • Monitors and manages the personnel budget to include the use of overtime and part time FTEs.
  • Monitors the M&O budget.
  • Reviews clinical data for quality assurance.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience. Certification as a Medical Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histocompatibility Technologist, or Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent specialty certification, as appropriate. Qualification as a general supervisor under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments if required to perform essential duties in the laboratory specialty.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard laboratory environment.
