Job Summary:
To provide the administrative and technical skills necessary to organize, supervise, and complete various medical laboratory procedures within a section.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Coordinates and directs all administrative and laboratory procedures within the section.

Schedules work assignments within the section.

Coordinates development of new test procedures.

Reviews and updates existing test procedures.

Maintains laboratory manuals for the section.

Reviews quality of test results and quality control procedures, making judgments concerning results and taking appropriate action to maintain accuracy.

Develops protocols and procedures for the section.

Instructs new employees, section personnel, and students in new and established clinical laboratory procedures.

Assists personnel with complex procedures, exercising independent judgment and responsibility.

Administers personnel policies such as sick leave, vacation, and performance evaluations for section personnel.

Reviews test results, QC data, and proficiency data for accuracy.

Maintains inventory of reagents and other supplies.

Prepares workload and related budget data.

Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience. Certification as Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
(ASCP) OR National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel (NCA) or equivalent specialty certification.
Equipment:
Standard laboratory equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard laboratory environment.
