Job Summary:
To provide clinical diagnostic study of cells for the purpose of recognizing and classifying malignant and benign inflammatory and irritative conditions.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Stains, mounts, and studies cells of the human body to determine pathological conditions.

Accurately screens GYN and NGYN specimens.

Performs variety of laboratory procedures.

Assists in fine needle aspirations including preparing and screening of the specimen.

Classifies slides from normal to cancerous cells.

Records classification and presents unusual characteristics to the pathologist.

Maintains records of assignments performed in cytology section.

Participates in continuing education and quality control programs.

Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree in related field and no experience required. ASCP certification. (Note: Bachelor's degree is not required if the ASCP certified cytotechnologist graduated from a cytotechnology program before the year of 1988).
Equipment:
Standard laboratory equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environment.

Any
qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums
require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
