Job Summary:
To provide advanced technical skills in preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Prepares tissue specimens of varying complexity on glass slides or in blocks in accordance with special techniques.

Trims specimen and fixes tissue in fixing solution for prescribed length of time to kill any organisms present and preserve cellular composition.

Dehydrates tissue sections by immersion, clears sections by use of special liquid reagents, and impregnates sections.

Reviews tissue samples to ascertain that results are satisfactory for pathological examination.

Assists in training students and Histology Technician I’s.

Determines when prescribed techniques and apparati should be modified to meet special conditions and to expedite diagnosis.

Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High school or equivalent and two years related experience. ASCP certified.
Equipment:
Standard laboratory equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical and/or laboratory environment.
