Job Summary:

Demonstrates competence, caring and compassion when performing technical and supportive patient care skills, incorporating the patient’s plan of care, recognizing age specific requirements and following approved policy and procedure.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Under the direction of a physician:
    • Apply cast – fiberglass and plaster
    • Fit braces – upper and lower extremity
    • Splints – upper and lower extremity
    • Molds for Custom Braces
    • Suture and Staple removal
    • Provides explanation when obtaining vital signs or other technical skills.
    • Uses aseptic technique and infection control measures in the performance of duties.
    • Measures and records intake and output as ordered.
    • Prepares and assists patients care priorities, treatment plan, objectives and potential care.
    • Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plan, objectives, and potential crisis.
    • Under the direction of an RN, provides other treatments and care to patients appropriate to training as assigned.
    • Recognizes and communicates patient needs and unusual occurrences with patients/families.
  • Accurately documents and communicates interventions and measurements.
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Practices positive customer and peer relations.
  • Respects and supports patient rights.
  • Participates in and supports continuous quality improvement activities at the clinic/departmental level.
  • Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment.
  • Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member by fostering constructive relationships with co-workers, managers and others.
  • Accepts responsibility for own growth/development.

Required Education / Experience:

High school or equivalent. CPR certification. Nurse Assistant program with 2 years experience OR Medical Corpsman with 1 year experience OR EMT program with 1 year experience or Current enrollment in professional nursing program with completion of introductory nursing course work. Completion of accredited/recognized Orthopedic Tech/Prosthetics Tech Program or equivalent experience.

Equipment: 

Related supplies for a selected patient population, mechanical devices and computer equipment.

Working Environment:

Standard hospital, clinical and / or office environments.

Other: 

May be required to work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by the Practice Coordinator and/or Practice Manager.
