Job Summary:
To assist in the performance of tissue bank procedures related to the recovery, processing, storage, and distribution of donated
cadaver human tissues for transplant.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Serves as active member of the procurement team in the recovery of both sterile and non-sterile (clean tissues from cadaverous donors including skin, bone, and connective tissue.

Assists coordinator in the recovery of hearts (for valves) and saphenous veins.

Utilizes aseptic technique in setting up and maintaining sterile fields during the recovery and processing of sterile grafts.

Performs surgical scrub, prep, and draping of donor procurement sites.

Draws blood from each donor for serologic testing and obtains tissue samples from each donor for microbiological testing (cultures) to determine the presence or absence of communicable diseases or infections.

Processes both clean and sterile tissues under the supervision of the coordinator.

Completes necessary forms to maintain accurate donor records and tracking logs related to tissue recovery, laboratory results, processing, and storage.

Completes donor related functions in accordance with hospital or mortuary guidelines to assure proper and respectful handling of donors and donor materials.

Represents the Tissue bank in a professional manner both on campus and while off-campus on procurements, etc., and in dealings with various hospitals, funeral homes, organ and tissue bank, and the general public.

Participates in departmental quality control by monitoring and documenting equipment function such as refrigerator temperatures, nitrogen tank and performing environmental cultures.

Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supplies.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High school or equivalent. One year of experience in related field or experience with one year of college or completion of a one year course in vocational nursing, mortuary science, or a surgical technician program.
Equipment:
Standard surgical instruments.
Working Environment:
Standard laboratory or morgue areas.
Other:

Any
qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums
