Job Summary:
To provide specialized
technical skills and training in the diagnostic evaluation and care of the
patient and to assist the physician by performing a variety of technical
procedures, gathering data and conducting tests.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Performs various
patient testing.
- Instructs patients
and/or parents in home therapy.
- Administers eye and
oral medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.
- Measures for and
applies temporary prisms.
- Monitors amblyopia
therapy.
- Performs topical/synoptophore
training sessions and diagnostic evaluation.
- Coordinates the
delivery of services with the administrative and medical staff.
- Assists in teaching
medical students and Ophthalmology residents about strabismus and amblyopia.
- Participates in
academic research under direction from the Ophthalmologist.
- Maintains the
appropriate documentation in patients' charts for billing and accreditation
purposes and marks correct procedure on the billing form.
- Adheres to internal
controls established for department.
- Adheres to the
standards established by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in
Ophthalmology, American Orthoptic Counsel.
- Performs related duties
as required.
Required Education / Experience:
Associate's degree or
equivalent and two years related experience.
Equipment:
Standard ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinic and/or surgical areas.
Other:
