Job Summary:
This position provides direction, supervision, and technical skills in the operation and management of the non-invasive vascular laboratory at the University of Texas Medical Branch in support of patient care and research. Responsibilities include providing non-invasive diagnostic testing and services through supervision and training of staff, maintaining the vascular laboratory, quality assurance, and program development.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Directs and supervises the daily technical operations of the vascular laboratory.
- Applies the profession’s code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
- Assigns staff and workload requirements respecting changing priorities in daily operations.
- Provides training and staff development through ongoing in-services.
- Assists in organizing and maintaining a formal course of development in vascular laboratory techniques for trainees, technicians and support staff.
- Performs vascular procedures, as required, and assists Medical Director, physicians, and other professional medical staff with difficult technical problems in non-invasive vascular diagnostics.
- Gathers data and participates in the department’s quality assurance and improvement plan to achieve a defined level of quality and appropriateness of quality care services.
- Maintains knowledge of, observes, and enforces the safety measures in Environment of Care.
- Organizes special research and diagnostic projects.
- Provides practical instruction to students and other health care professionals.
- Assists in evaluating staff, monitoring performance and providing guidance to constructively influence staff morale.
- Monitors the status of equipment repairs and preventative maintenance, gathers data on equipment malfunction and associated down time, and documents its effects on patient care.
- Assists Medical Director with accreditation processes.
- Disseminates and assures compliance with department and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department.
- Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills,
& Abilities
Work requires ability to:
- Utilize ultrasound related equipment;
- Interact with patients regarding procedures;
- Move and position equipment and patients;
- Read, write, and interpret exams; and
- Determine methods and approaches to work problems.
Required Education / Experience:
- Associate’s degree in respective radiologic technology specialty or graduate of accredited radiologic technology program.
- Five years of related experience in non-invasive laboratory to include two years of supervisory experience.
- Certified as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
(ARDMS).
Equipment:
Ultrasound equipment, and other laboratory equipment commonly used in a non-invasive laboratory. Standard office equipment.
Working Environment:
Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.
- Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
- Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, performing CPR, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
- Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
- Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch must be adequate to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication.
- May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
- Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory input.
- Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
- May work extended shifts as necessary to complete job objectives.
Other:
May be required to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations deemed necessary by a designated appropriate administrative leadership.
Able to work under stress and be emotionally capable of coping with complex and/or changing
activities.

subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
Any
qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums
