Job Summary:
To perform EEG and evoked
potential studies and to supervise and instruct neurophysiology technicians in
these studies.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Performs
neurophysiological studies as per written protocols.
- Explains procedures to
patient, elicits and records medical history from patient and/or chart.
- Applies standard scalp
electrodes and makes determination about placement of other monitoring
devices based on history obtained and medical condition.
- Administers sedation
medication based on independent judgment of need.
- Records the
electroencephalogram and independently makes alteration of the test protocol
based on history and on the ongoing EEG.
- Recognizes and corrects
electrical and electronic malfunction.
- Prepares the completed
hard copy of EEG and EP studies for interpretation.
- Completes the
"Technician Impression" sheet which serves as the preliminary
report.
- Serves as Instructor of
Neurology Residents, EEG and EP Technicians.
- Supervises and directs
EEG Technicians.
- Adheres to internal
controls established for department.
- Performs related duties
as required.
Required Education / Experience:
Associate's degree or
equivalent and two years related experience. ABRET registered.
Equipment:
Standard EEG and evoked potential equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital and/or clinical environment.
Other:
