Job Summary:
Manages the optical shop
of the Department of Ophthalmology, to include inventory, sales, ordering
glasses, frames and other optical supplies.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Maintains inventory of
levels of glasses and frames; orders glasses, frames and supplies; assists
with pricing and sales promotion.
- Designs and adapts
lenses and frames in accordance with written prescriptions and the patients'
vocational and avocational visual requirements.
- Recommends lenses for
safety and color, coordinating them with the patients' facial and eye
measurements.
- Prepares work order for
grinding lenses and fabricating spectacles.
- Verifies exactness of
finished spectacles. Adjusts frames and lens positions to fit patients by
heating, shaping or bending frames. Instructs patients as to the correct
wearing and care of glasses.
- Orders contact lenses
and instructs new contact lens wearers in the insertion, removal and care of
the lenses.
- Maintains patients'
optical records as well as inventory and bookkeeping records. Prepares
monthly reports as requested.
- Adheres to internal
controls established for department.
- Performs related duties
as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High school or equivalent
and two years of experience as an optician.
Equipment:
Standard Optical Shop equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard office and patient care environment.
Other:
