JOB SUMMARY: To participate in nosocomial infection surveillance, prevention, and control activities for the University of Texas Medical Branch.MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS: · Evaluates risk of patients and employees after exposure and completes work up.· Acts to recognize trends of disease and establishes controls.· Uses the medical literature to establish protocols for appropriate culturing of the environment and patient.· Answers questions when on-call and seeks advice for difficult situations.· Analyzes nosocomial infection data and uses it in discussions.· Initiates new programs based on microbiology reports.· Coordinates the infection control team on various projects.· Documents and identifies problems and keeps notes.· Develops innovative teaching methods for educational classes on infection control.· Adheres to internal controls established for department.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in nursing, medical technology or related field. Two years of related experience in addition to four years of infection control experience. EQUIPMENT: Standard hospital, laboratory and office equipment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Standard office and patient care environments.
