Job Summary:
To provide supervisory
and/or technical skills in the supply, preparation, and distribution of patient
care equipment/supplies. Positions requiring the use of a vehicle also involve
the routine operation and minor maintenance of university vehicles in the
transportation of passengers or materials in multiple areas of the hospital and
clinics.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Assists in supervising
a group of employees engaged in transporting patients and equipment.
- Assists in supervising
a group of employees engaged in transporting patients and equipment
- Monitors the flow of
paperwork in the department to assure that all forms are properly completed
and filed.
- Assists nursing
personnel with problem patients.
- Acts as a liaison with
other campus departments regarding questions or problems which need
attention.
- Trains new employees.
- Positions Involving
Driving Also Include:
- Assigns personnel
to and assists in transporting patients and other assigned passengers on
and/or off campus.
- Assigns personnel
to and assists in delivering and/or retrieving materials as instructed.
- Assists in the
loading and unloading of materials from vehicles.
- Maintains daily log
of mileage, number of trips, passengers/cargo, destination and fuel/oil
consumption.
- Inspects condition
of all assigned vehicles on a regular basis with regard to oil, fuel,
tires and water.
- Reports any needed
adjustments or repairs to supervisor and/or fleet planning.
- Adheres to internal
controls established for department.
- Performs related duties
as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High school or equivalent
and three years experience. Driving positions require current Texas Class C -
Commercial Drivers License and completion of Defensive Driving course. CPR and
Passive Aggressive Training.
Equipment:
Nursing equipment and supplies. Driving positions require operation of ¼ to
3-ton vehicles.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical and/or office environments. May be exposed to
such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, harmful chemicals,
and/or disoriented or combative patients. Heavy lifting required (up to 50lbs).
Driving positions require the ability to drive vehicles under adverse weather
conditions. Must be able to cope with emergency driving situations.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to
this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby
subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
Any
qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums
require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
