JOB SUMMARY:
Performs coordination and training functions for
dental assistant staff as well as direct and indirect patient care procedures
and general clinical and support tasks, as specifically delegated or directed by
the supervising dentist. .
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs a combination, but not necessarily all,
of the following duties:

Coordinates, trains, instructs, and
participates in the evaluation process of dental assistants in the
performance of their duties. Proficient in teaching infection control
techniques to other auxiliary staff.

Plans and schedules work activities and
vacation schedules under the direction of the Facility/Cluster Dental
Director.

Executes some degree of complex
administrative support duties involving the exercise of independent
judgment, giving general directions and supervision.

Assists and circulates during oral and
maxillofacial operations and restorative procedures.

Operates personal computers to enter and
assimilate data, generate reports, draft routine correspondence, and develop
special administrative analyses upon request.

Operates data entry system for entry and
receipt of daily sick call requests and schedules routine and sick call
appointments for the dental clinic using the appropriate scheduling
program. Enters appointments for all specialty off-site care and maintains
a tracking system to assure all off-site clinic appointments are
completed.

Performs dental administrative support tasks
including but not limited to filing, routing phone
calls/correspondence/mail, and faxing information

Retrieves or assists in retrieval and
maintenance of all dental records which includes creating appropriate
storage envelope for the records including radiographs. Reviews dental
records for completeness and accuracy.

Receives, stores, distributes, and maintains
proper inventory levels and stock records for the dental department. Fills
requisitions, work orders or supply requests, and returns expired/unused
inventory to warehouse for credit. Checks contents received against
invoices and purchase orders and reports discrepancies.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting
structure.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited senior high school
or GED equivalent. Currently Certified Dental Assistant by having met the
criteria established by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. or completion
of a program accredited by the American Dental Association. Four years
experience as a dental assistant.
Must be currently registered or become
registered with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners as required by state
law and defined by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. Must continuously
maintain registration with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, which
includes annual certification in CPR and a designated number of continuing
education hours related to dentistry.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment and standard dental clinic equipment including dental
x-ray equipment. May be required to travel to multiple facilities and provide
dental assistance.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
Normal dental clinic and standard
administrative clinical office setting within a correctional facility.

this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby
subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
Any
