Job Summary:
Under the direction of the
Mental Health Services Team, this position is responsible for coordinating and
monitoring systems and processes of the delivery of medical and mental health
care at an inpatient psychiatric facility or cluster.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Contributes to the
success of the UTMB Correctional Managed Care organization.
- As a member of the
facility management team, ensures that the various medical and mental health
care disciplines work together to comply with institutional, professional,
regulatory, budgetary, governmental and safety requirements.
- Monitors the inpatient
census to ensure the efficient movement of patients into, within and out of
the facility.
- Coordinates patient
scheduling and transportation to ensure the safe, efficient and timely
delivery of health services, and compliance with contractual requirements;
maintains the inpatient census at an appropriate level.
- Gathers, analyzes, and
reports data on inpatient admissions, lengths of stay and other utilization
review variables.
- Coordinates nursing
services and supervises nursing staff in order to provide appropriate
patient care.
- Assists in the
administrative supervision of subordinate staff and in the recruitment and
hiring of mental health and medical staff; assists in the handling of
employee grievances and disciplinary actions.
- Participates in budget
formulation and coordinates budgetary management activities; monitors and
coordinates and extensive inventory of supplies; equipment and other assets.
- Ensures that
appropriate staffing levels are maintained and that all employees abide by
UTMB time and attendance policies.
- Serves as a liaison
with the facility warden(s) and assists in the coordination of specialized
training programs for inpatient security staff.
- Coordinates and assists
with preparations of the inpatient facility for audits, surveys and
accreditation activities.
- Coordinates and
responds to inquiries and complaints from patients, family members and
advocates; represents the inpatient facility in dealings with outside
officials, agencies and other entities; ensures proper placement of
offenders discharging from the inpatient facility to the free world.
- Maintains a complex
system of files, documentation and information systems as indicated.
- Adheres to internal
controls established for department and Correctional Managed Care.
- Performs a variety of
other duties as assigned by the Mental Health Services Team.
Required Education / Experience:
Licensure as a registered
nurse and minimum of four years related administrative experience in a mental
health setting. Graduation from an approved nursing program.
Equipment:
Standard office equipment.
Working Environment:
Office environment within a mental health correctional facility.
