JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing mental health evaluation and therapeutic intervention to patients. Works under the supervision of a Psychologist, Mental Health Manager and/or Program Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Contributes to the success of the UTMB Managed Care organization.

  • Interviews, evaluates and diagnoses patients identified as having mental health needs.

  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy and crisis intervention.

  • Develops, implements and reviews Individual Treatment Plans.

  •  Assists with training and education of mental health, medical and other staff.

  • Assists in the implementation of Quality Improvement/Quality Management (QI/QM) programs and the monitoring of compliance with required policies, procedures and standards.

  • Provides routine consultation and communication with supervisor and/or attending psychiatric provider regarding the status of assigned patients.

  • Completes clinically appropriate and timely documentation.

  • Liaisons with patient, patient families, on-site departments and community agencies to coordinate current treatment and/or facilitate aftercare services

Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.  Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor, Psychological Associate, or Social Worker.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments.  May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, harmful chemicals, and/or disoriented or combative patients. 

OTHER:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
