Job Summary:

To provide professional research-specific advice, counsel, and support to assigned faculty and departmental staff. Serves as the single point of contact for requests from the research community and sponsors, and acts as liaison among faculty, staff, administration, sponsors, and internal Research Services functions.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Assists faculty in maximizing available resources to promote their research and intellectual property development.

  • Provides guidance to faculty and their staff regarding complex issues relating to pre-award, post award, and financial administration of their grants and contracts.

  • Provides guidance to faculty and their staff on the more complex issues of federal regulations, on UTMB’s policies and procedures relating to research administration, and on all Research Services forms.

  • Advises faculty and their staff on how to obtain information relating to their research from all Research Services databases.

  • Assists in the development and offering of training programs and/or materials regarding the overall administration of sponsored programs.

  • Meets with designated faculty and departmental staff, attends relevant lectures, forums, poster sessions, for the purpose of assessing needs and offering support.

  • Contacts new faculty members to orient them to available service lines.

  • Records research interests of the faculty.

  • Handles intake for service requests from departmental faculty and staff; responsible for timely and accurate capture of relevant service request data.

  • Resolves service issues in a timely response, involving subject matter experts and support personnel when appropriate.

  • Observes trends in service requests, noting when services can be provided via more appropriate media.

  • Assembles and ensures dissemination of research opportunities.

  • Monitors current programs and incorporates knowledge into recommendations for faculty.

  • Assists management with mentoring staff and establishing appropriate performance goals.

  • Interacts with all divisions of Research Services for optimal service delivery.

  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Required Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field plus four years related experience in more than one area of research administration.

Equipment: 

Standard office equipment.

Working Environment:

Standard hospital, clinical and/or office environments.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
