JOB SUMMARY:

Applies advanced and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the planning, organizing, executing and coordinating of institutional remodeling, renovation, new construction and equipment replacement projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

• Provides full range of engineering support and design services and leadership in the planning, organizing, executing and coordinating of institutional remodeling, renovation, new construction and equipment replacement projects.
• Reviews contractor submittals, requests for information, change proposals and other construction administration documents for design intent.
• Develops construction documents and change proposals.
• Visually reviews and provides written comments on design plans and specifications prepared by others.
• Visits construction sites to determine compliance with design intent, reporting discrepancies, errors and omissions and utilizes this input to update standards, processes and procedures.
• Acts as departmental liaison with external consulting engineers and consultants.
• Ensures compliance with applicable building codes and other regulatory requirements governing the provisions of design services and with departmental and institutional standards for facility projects.
• Ensures 'as-built' reports are maintained and AutoCAD database is updated.
• Serves as lead and technical resource on complex projects.
• Mentors engineering team members.
• Seals construction documents as Engineer of Record when applicable.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in an Engineering field.  Six years of engineering design experience, to include two years of healthcare or research design experience and emphasis on the design of facility systems.  Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas required.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment. Autocad stations and standard engineering assessment tools.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, light industrial and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, harmful chemicals, and/or disoriented or combative patients.  Describe travel requirements and other physical demands of job.
