JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the collaborative efforts of the
mechanical engineering function on campus and is the primary contact on
mechanical engineering related matters. Applies advanced and diversified
knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the planning, organizing,
executing and coordinating of institutional remodeling,
renovation, new construction and equipment replacement projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Manages full range of engineering support and design services and provides
leadership in the planning, organizing, executing and coordinating of
institutional remodeling, renovation, new construction and equipment
replacement projects.

Manages the engineering support staff required to support Facilities and
Support Services mission and goals.

Reviews contractor submittals, requests for information,
change proposals and other construction administration documents for design
intent.

Manages or assists in the process to qualify and selecting
professional design firms for the purpose of contracting for design
services.

Develops construction documents and change proposals.

Visually reviews and provides written comments on design plans
and specifications prepared by others.

Visits construction sites to determine compliance with design
intent, reporting discrepancies, errors and omissions and utilizes this
input to update standards, processes and procedures.

Acts as departmental liaison with external consulting
engineers and consultants.

Ensures compliance with applicable building codes and other
regulatory requirements governing the provisions of design services and with
departmental and institutional standards for facility projects.

Ensures 'as-built' reports are maintained and AutoCAD database
is updated.

Serves as lead and technical resource on complex projects.

Mentors engineering team members.

Seals construction documents as Engineer of Record when
applicable.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in an Engineering field. Seven
years of engineering design experience, to include two years of healthcare or
research design experience and emphasis on the design of facility systems.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), State of Texas required.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment. Autocad stations and
standard engineering assessment tools.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, light
industrial and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational
hazards such as communicable diseases, harmful chemicals, and/or disoriented or
combative patients.
