JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinate the day- to-day activities of the process work groups.  Has primary responsibility for maintaining the production, distribution, and energy management systems.  Responsible for directing the efforts of semi-skilled, skilled and journeyman level craftsmen in the maintenance and repair of specialized equipment and systems of UTMB.

 

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

  • Plans, supervises, assigns, schedules, monitors, trains and evaluates the work of mechanics and operators. 

  • Monitors the performance of personnel to achieve optimum safety, reliability, and efficiency in the maintenance of the facilities. 

  • Keeps current on and recommends change to operating procedures, new equipment and related systems. 

  • Monitors the collection, review and approval of log sheets and other pertinent data. 

  • Performs detailed inspections of operating equipment, personnel activities and plant facilities as necessary. 

  • Determines and recommends most effective method of making repairs. 

  • Arranges for the procurement of materials or services.

  • Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies. 

  • Troubleshoots system problems, which could require following detailed operational and maintenance procedures and reading system blue prints.

  • Provides detailed estimates and maintains cost control of maintenance projects.

  • Assists in after hour call outs.

  • Supervises compliance with standards of workmanship and safety.

  • Diagnoses complicated system problems.  Repairs and takes proactive steps to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Trains personnel on operation and maintenance procedures as required.

  • Performs related duties as required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree or equivalent and 3 years related experience.

 

EQUIPMENT:

Standard office equipment.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Standard office environment. 

Occasional exposure to construction environment.

Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards typical to central plants, and utility distribution systems.

Required to wear a pager and/or cell phone.

May be required to work extended shifts.
