JOB SUMMARY:

Perform journeyman level construction activities for UTMB facilities. Maintain the necessary technical skills to construct research and healthcare facilities. Responsible for providing assistance and knowledge in all areas of construction.

  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·        Works as a part of construction team for in-house UTMB projects.

·        Monitors and maintains records of projects and changes made to facilities.

·        Completes work orders using automated maintenance program systems.

·        Identifies and reports safety hazards. 

·        Attends staff and safety training meetings.

·        Attends construction, plant operation and maintenance training courses.

·        Trains new personnel as required.

·        Coordinates construction projects involving multiple trades.

·        Backs up Construction Team Leader in his absence.

·        Interprets codes to determine appropriate construction techniques and processes.

·        Works with very technical and specific equipment as required.

·        Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

 

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years of journeyman experience (in HVAC,  Electrical,   Electronics, or  Stationary Engineering).  Valid Class C Driver’s license

 

EQUIPMENT:

General equipment used in allied trades.  Standard office equipment for basic computer access and e-mail.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Some exposure to weather and physical hazards.

Exposure to construction environment.

May be required to work extended or rotating shifts.

Lifting heavy objects and work in construction shop and facilities physical plant.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
