JOB SUMMARY:

To operate vehicles for patient transport within a correctional healthcare setting in a safe manner.  To provide routine inspection and maintenance of vehicles.  To provide diversified administrative, clerical, and technical assistance/service within the correctional healthcare setting.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with safe, prompt transfers of patients between correctional facilities, Hospital Galveston and other free world destinations throughout a large geographical area.

  • Maintains daily log of mileage, number of trips, passengers, destination and fuel/oil consumption.

  • Inspects condition of all assigned vehicles on a regular basis with regard to oil, fuel, tires and water.

  • Reports any needed adjustments or repairs to supervisor.

  • Provides a clean, safe environment; performs or assists others to perform proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.

  • Operates personal computers to enter and assimilate data, generate reports, draft routine correspondence, and develop special administrative analyses.

  • Performs facility administrative support tasks including but not limited to answering the phone, filing, faxing, scanning and mail functions.

  • Adheres to internal controls established for department and Correctional Managed Care.

 

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years related experience.  Valid Texas Driver’s License required.   

 

EQUIPMENT:

Operation of 5,897 lb Patient Transport Vehicle with maximum patient load of six and a 7,250 lb Multiple Patient Vehicle with a maximum patient load of ten.  Standard nursing/medical equipment used in transporting patients.  Standard office equipment.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

·        Standard hospital, clinical, and office environments in both a correctional and free world setting.

·        Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required, such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients over 50 lbs.

·        May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, harmful chemicals, and/or disoriented/combative patients.

·        Driving vehicles under adverse weather conditions and emergency driving situations.

·        Rotating shifts may be required.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
