JOB SUMMARY:

To provide and troubleshoot specialized systems (HVAC), HEPA filtration, pneumatic tube system, medical gas, breathing air systems and instrumentation. Responsible for providing work in the installation, maintenance, certification and operation on specialized HEPA systems.

 

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

·        Monitors and certifies in-place pre-filters, HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters, and carbon filters on air systems, laminar flow cabinets, biosafety cabinets, animal isolator units, and other air handling systems to ensure the integrity of the building biosafety systems.

·        Decontaminates and certifies annually or as needed all Class I, II, III biological safety cabinets, fume hoods, HEPA filter banks.

·        Participates at the annual certification of Biosafety Level (BSL) 2, 3, and 4 biocontainment facilities.

·        Maintains inventory of filters and ensures an adequate stock of back-up parts for HEPA housing units, biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, biosafety suits, breathing air system, chemical shower, and general office & shop supplies.

·        Performs decontamination of HEPA filter housing units and biosafety cabinets prior to service work or when required for certification.

·        Ensures safe movement of biosafety equipment from one location to another for clients.      

·        Provides technical support on the safe use and general operation of the biosafety cabinets, laboratory air filtration systems.

·        Certifies all types of biosafety cabinets including fume hoods and laminar flow cabinets.

·        Perform other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

·        High School Diploma or equivalent and no experience required.

·        Department of Justice Background Investigation and Select Agent Registration

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard office environment. 

  • Occasional exposure to construction environment.

  • Usual working conditions found in mechanical rooms, electrical and electronic working conditions. 

  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions, electrical hazards or temperature extremes.

  • Proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems.

  • Climb ladders, stairways and work on building rooftops of high elevation.

  • Work in confined spaces

  • May be required to work extended or rotating shifts.
