Job Summary:
To provide the responsible administrative and supervisory enforcement skills in the commissioned law enforcement services of The University of Texas System.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Plans, organizes, and supervises departmental activities including the enforcement of criminal law and Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations concerning traffic, parking, and the conduct of staff, students, and visitors.
- Checks performance, appearance, and conduct of subordinates.
- Evaluates and analyzes accomplishments of department's objectives.
- Confers with local enforcement, court, and governmental officials to explain Police Department policies.
- Assists in recruitment programs and instructs in University Police training programs.
- Assists local police agencies in serving warrants on property within the jurisdiction of The University of Texas System.
- Investigates circumstances surrounding violations of laws and University regulations.
- Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High school or equivalent and a minimum of sixty semester hours. An applicant may fulfill this college requirement by substituting one of the following: Thirty semester college hours and one year of continuous employment as a Police Guard by a component institution within The University of Texas System or two years of active military service and one year of continuous employment as a guard by a component institution within The University of Texas System.
Valid Texas Class C driver's license, and certification in First Aid training. Must hold a Peace Officer Commission -- The UT System. Four years experience as a commissioned officer with a University of Texas System Police Department, during which time no less than one year was served at the next lower rank. Possess Advanced Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and successfully pass an approved proficiency examination administered by the Director of Police, or his designee. Must be serving at the next lower rank at time proficiency examination is taken.
Equipment:
Standard law enforcement equipment and vehicles.
Working Environment:
Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Position may be hazardous.

Any
qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums
require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
