Job Summary:

To provide responsible administrative and supervisory enforcement skills in the commissioned law enforcement services of The University of Texas Medical Branch.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises departmental activities including the enforcement of the Board of Regents' Rules and Regulations concerning traffic, parking and conduct of staff, students, and visitors.
  • Inspects roll-call and exit briefings of incoming and outgoing commissioned officer shifts.
  • Monitors the operation of the Department's communication center and supervises dispatchers and telephone operators in the performance of their respective duties.
  • Instructs University Police training programs.
  • Assists local police agencies in serving warrants on property within the areas under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Texas Medical Branch.
  • Assists in criminal investigations.
  • Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Required Education / Experience:

High school equivalent and a minimum of sixty semester hours. An applicant may fulfill this college requirement by substituting one of the following: Thirty (30) semester college hours and one year of continuous employment as a Police Guard by a component institution within The University of Texas System or two years of active military service and one year of continuous employment as a guard by a component institution within The University of Texas System. 

Must hold a Peace Officer Commission - UT System, a valid Texas Class C driver's license, and a certificate in First Aid training. Four years experience as a member of a University of Texas System Police Department during which time no less than one year was served at the next lower rank. Possess Intermediate Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, and successfully pass an approved proficiency examination administered by the Director of Police, or his designee. Must be serving at next lower rank at time proficiency examination is taken. 

Equipment: 

Standard law enforcement equipment and vehicles.

Working Environment:

Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions. Position may be hazardous.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
