JOB SUMMARY:

To provide service, information and aid to all citizens as circumstances require; prevent crime, suppress disturbance, investigate criminal offenses and arrest offenders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Preserves the peace by use of all lawful means, interceding to prevent or suppress crime when authorized by law.
  • Patrols the property of The University of Texas System by vehicle or by foot.
  • Provides service, information and direction to students, employees and visitors.
  • Responds to emergency calls.
  • Enforces traffic laws.
  • Investigates criminal offenses.
  • Arrests offenders without warrant where authorized by law.
  • Enforces Board of Regents Rules and Regulations.
  • Prepares reports on all activities and files reports with supervising officer.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Must have at least 2 years of service as a police officer in the United States; and possess a current peace officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLE) and less than a 2 year break in service as a commissioned police officer.  Possess a valid Texas Class C drivers license.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard law enforcement equipment and vehicles.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

May be exposed to adverse weather conditions.  Position may be hazardous.

OTHER:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
