JOB SUMMARY:

To attend and satisfactorily complete a 23 week training program at the University of Texas System Police Academy in Austin, Texas, qualifying for commissioning as a Peace Officer of the University of Texas System.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Attends classes and maintains comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in classes.
• Prepares research papers.
• Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, and practical problems.
• Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of the University of Texas System Police or by any member of the Academy staff.
• Adheres to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Must reach his/her 21^st birthday on the date of commissioning. High School Diploma/GED plus a minimum of 60 semester college hours. In Lieu of 60 college hours, 30 semester college hours plus 2 years of active military service with honorable discharge, or 30 semester college hours plus one year of continuous employment as a Police Guard by a component institution within the University of Texas System

Must pass Written Exam, Physical Agility, Polygraph, Psychological, Medical, Drug Screening, Oral Exam and thorough Background Check.

Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard law enforcement equipment and vehicles.

Position may be hazardous.  Possible exposure to adverse weather conditions.
