JOB SUMMARY:

To attend and satisfactorily complete a 23 week training program at the University of Texas System Police Academy in Austin, Texas, qualifying for commissioning as a Peace Officer of the University of Texas System.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Attends classes and maintains comprehensive notebooks of subjects covered in classes.
  • Prepares research papers.
  • Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program, and practical problems.
  • Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of the University of Texas System Police or by any member of the Academy staff.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Must reach his/her 21st birthday on the date of commissioning. High School Diploma/GED plus a minimum of 60 semester college hours. In Lieu of 60 college hours, 30 semester college hours plus 2 years of active military service with honorable discharge, or 30 semester college hours plus one year of continuous employment as a Police Guard by a component institution within the University of Texas System

Must pass Written Exam, Physical Agility, Polygraph, Psychological, Medical, Drug Screening, Oral Exam and thorough Background Check.

Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.

EQUIPMENT:

Standard law enforcement equipment and vehicles.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Position may be hazardous.  Possible exposure to adverse weather conditions.

OTHER:

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
