JOB SUMMARY:

To direct the education component of the UTMB Children’s Center.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Researches current educational trends and expectations for children entering Kindergarten.

  • Contributes to the evaluation and appropriate classroom placement of children.

  • Catalogues, distributes, and maintains educational materials and equipment and monitors the methods in which teachers utilize them in the classroom, providing guidance and instruction to teachers as needed.

  • Represents the center in the external early childhood community and the Galveston County community.

  • Contributes to the evaluation of teaching staff.

  • Mentors new teachers including but not limited to orientation of new staff.

  • Contributes to center-wide activities.

  • Provides onsite training to teachers as needed.

  • Directs teachers in choosing appropriate professional development training

  • Oversees the development and implementation of lesson plans.

  • Oversees the initial assessment and long-term goal setting for individual children.

  • Maintains the health, well-being and learning environment for the children in the child care center.

  • Contributes to the scheduling of Child Care Specialists and Assistants, acting as a back up for teachers as needed.

  • Ensures teacher maintenance of various records and reports pertaining to the development of each child.

  • Participates in meetings and makes recommendations regarding appropriate curricula, program operations and the purchase and utilization of equipment required to implement curriculum.

  • Consults with parents of children as needed.

  • Monitors the maintenance of the Center's physical plant to assure the safety and well-being of the children.

  • Participates in continued professional growth activities.

  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

 

MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related duties as required.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Associates Degree and 2 years related experience required.  Texas Day Care Director's License or be eligible to obtain one.

 

EQUIPMENT:

Standard child care / educational, and/or office equipment. 

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:

Standard child care environment.

Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215, Texas Education Code.
