Job Summary:
To assist teachers in the institution in teaching students, and to perform related clerical duties.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Performs various clerical tasks, and assists other aides and main office secretaries with clerical work.

Teaches individual children or small groups of children, following curriculum guide with respect to lessons assigned by teacher.

Substitutes for teachers in teachers' absence.

Assists students with technologically aided instruction: computer, laser disk, VCR taped tutorials.

Attends morning report with multidisciplinary team.
-
Contacts home school personnel for records and assignments.
-
Confers with parents regarding physical condition of child.

Interacts with UTMB health care professionals for scheduling class time, information sharing, and behavior management.

Accompanies students to medical appointments or therapies.

Prepares class schedules.

Maintains supplies in the classrooms.

Utilizes the hospital's mainframe daily to obtain HNDR census, and to screen for potential students.

Utilizes database software to keep inventory of textbooks and generate various reports.

Adheres to internal controls established for department.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High school or equivalent and Certified Paraprofessional Educational Aide III. No experience required unless prescribed by the certification.
Equipment:
Standard office and classroom equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard office, classroom, and hospital environments.
Other:
