Job Summary:
To provide language assistance by means of verbal interpretations for all medical communications between UTMB's staff and patients, patients' families, and visitors.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

Provides skilled verbal interpretation services in person and over the phone.

Executes dispatching duties as assigned and schedules appointments for services.

Acts as liaison between staff and patient/visitors to meet their needs.

Supports cross-cultural communication throughout the institution by sharing cultural factors influencing health behaviors.
- Assists in the orientation and training of volunteers and medical interpreters.

Develops and maintains records and produces reports by means of database.

Assist the supervisor in a variety of tasks as determined by the supervisor.

Follows institutional and departmental policies and procedures in all situations.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of oral translation experience. Must speak, and read English and target language fluently.
Equipment:
Standard office equipment.
Working Environment:
Standard hospital, clinical and/or office environments. Rotation shifts which include weekends. Must possess the ability to stand for extended periods and walk throughout the work shift.
