JOB SUMMARY:
Provides administrative direction of faculty,
support and technical staff, and volunteers in the design and development of
educational enrichment programs for students within the greater community, with
the goal of advancing scientific knowledge and careers in medical research and
healthcare.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages the Science
Education Programs, including summer science camps for students, promotion
of science fair projects, and involvement of UTMB faculty in public school
education as mentors in the classroom and laboratory. In addition, conducts
Science Education Workshops for Galveston County teachers.
- Implements scientific
research programs initiatives to ensure a larger pool of well-prepared
biomedical scientists, technical personnel and science teachers to meet
future national needs.
- Encourages significant
curriculum changes in the current K-12 educational systems; plans in-service
educational workshops for science teachers to advance skills.
- Attends national
meetings addressing the initiatives.
- Prepares budget
requests and establishes outcome analysis of efforts.
- Manages temporary
program employees and volunteers.
- Assists with the
development of applications for external grant support.
- Identifies appropriate
internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce
compliance.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs related
duties as requested by the Associate Vice President for Educational
Outreach.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree, and four years of related
experience.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments.
