Job Summary:

To assist Payroll Leadership and to act as the lead specialist in payroll disciplines to ensure payroll is generated timely and accurately; to assist in completion of reporting needs and the completion of systems maintenance, changes, and implementations.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Payroll Duties related to Payroll Disciplines
  • Maintains expertise in one or more of the following payroll disciplines:
    • Payroll Taxes
    • Time and Attendance Regulations and Policies
    • Personnel Transactions Processing
    • Payroll Processing
    • Payroll Reporting
    • Payroll Disbursements (3rd party payment processing)
    • Payroll Benefits
    • System Maintenance
    • Project Management
  • Serves as a resource for payroll staff members that have questions regarding payroll compliance, policy issues, and system use.
  • Maintains tables and enhances current systems.
  • Analyzes difficult transactions and problem solving.
  • Completes education and training of staff, departmental customers, and institutional partners.
  • Uses independent judgment in leading major projects/implementations.
  • Acts as liaison with IS programmers.
  • Leads process improvement and new system implementation projects.
  • Completes research and implement change as needed to ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and UTMB regulations, guidelines and policies.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or equivalent experience and five years of related work experience in payroll, accounting, and/or business.

Equipment: 

Standard office equipment.

Working Environment:

Standard hospital, clinical and/or office environments.
