Job Summary:

Responsible for either pre or post award areas and being knowledgeable of both areas, coordinating efforts in support and communication to principle investigators including disseminating research funding opportunities and providing oversight and accountability throughout proposal development and review to management of award.

Major Duties / Critical Tasks:

  • Assess the scientific expertise and interest of the UTMB research community to determine appropriate matches to funding opportunities.
  • Counsel with academic community on the development of projects to connect to potential sponsors. Encourage new research through ongoing communication and relationship with academic community.
  • Provide guidance to staff of the structure and practices of the various sources of research grants. Support staff in consulting with principle investigators on fiscal responsibilities and project timelines. Ensure staff is knowledgeable on types of awards and general terms and conditions for proper administration of financial award.
  • Coordinate training for academic researchers with the Director and the Education Division.
  • Consult with principle investigators on reporting requirements for scientific progress of their research projects.
  • Collaborate with departments on multidisciplinary projects coordinating efforts and sources, facilitating optimum communication with multiple investigators and/or multiple sources.
  • Responsible for making available opportunities for staff development and providing leadership to staff. Serve as a problem-solving resource for staff.
  • Conduct regular reviews of staff performance, handle personnel issues including hiring, scheduling issues, or disciplinary issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education / Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field and six years related experience.
