JOB SUMMARY:
To perform duties related to legal issues under the direct supervision of an
attorney.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

Drafts contracts and other documents for
review by attorneys.

Reviews completed contracts for accuracy and
compliance with the requirements of the Office of General Counsel and
University.

Provides assistance to departments in the
preparation of contracts.

Provides legal research and assists with
research projects and analysis using Westlaw, the Internet and the law
library.

Serves as a resource for support staff and
attorneys regarding legal procedures.
-
Interfaces and handles inquiries from the
UTMB Administration, UT System’s Office of General Counsel, Office of the
Attorney General and outside organizations.

Compiles and organizes all relevant
information and documentation for case defense and response to discovery,
including case summaries, witness lists, dispositive motion affidavits and
chronologies.

Compiles and organizes Public Information
Act Request responses, subpoena responses and Appeal Hearing documents.

Monitors and maintains the general
litigation docket.

Drafts answers, discovery responses,
affidavits, correspondence and pleadings and assists in trial preparation.

Schedules and assists with witness
interviews, depositions, hearings, trials, and ad hoc committee activities.

Opens new case files in database and
develops inquiries to assist in preparing various reports.

Adheres to internal controls established for
department.

Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or Legal Assistant Certificate or equivalent and two years of
experience.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standard hospital, clinical and/or office environment.
