JOB SUMMARY: To manage and direct the activities of the International Affairs Office at UTMB as the senior institutional representative regarding international staff issues. Engage in strategic planning and program development, oversee service lines delivery, and ensure compliance with local, state, system, and federal law relating to nonimmigrant employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: · Build and maintain expertise related to regulatory issues affecting international students and scholars. · Develop, build support for, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and institutional procedural policies. · Ensure staff receives necessary training to perform operational responsibilities including the preparation and filing of nonimmigrant visa petitions. · Supervisory duties (coaching, performance management, disciplinary action, time and attendance, etc.). · Ensure regular and proactive customer communication occurs, and incorporate customer feedback into service delivery. · Ensure international staff, and their departmental sponsors, are educated regarding regulatory and other issues through high quality and accurate presentations, seminars hand-outs and other materials. · Oversee system implementation, maintenance and data collection, and leverage systems to maximize functionality through interfaces. · Consult with departmental customers and advise international staff regarding permanent residency and complex/difficult immigration issues; prepare and file immigrant petitions in accordance with UTMB policy. · Serve as liaison with higher administration regarding problem resolution. · Promote and support cross-cultural learning opportunities through cultural, social, and community events involving UTMB internationals. · Build working relationships with departmental and key customers. · Participate in departmental and campus initiatives. · Liaison with Payroll regarding nonresident alien tax issues. · Develop and oversee program(s) to provide tax preparation assistance for nonresident alien employees
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC JOB FUNCTIONS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in related field and five years related experience. Knowledge of U.S. immigration, department of labor, and tax regulations affecting foreign nationals.
EQUIPMENT: Standard office equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION: Standard office environments.
