JOB SUMMARY:
To assist the Director in planning,
coordinating and evaluating all activities associated with the Office of Equal
Opportunity and Diversity. These activities include, but are not limited to,
equal opportunity functions, affirmative action requirements, and diversity
initiatives. This person will be responsible for the daily supervision of office
operations and staff, reviewing guidelines for non-discriminatory employment
practices and assist in the preparation of institutional reports to federal and
state compliance and regulatory agencies.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

Directs the effort of providing information, counsel and guidance to
employees seeking to resolve work related disputes, problems and/or
questions, providing the employee an opportunity for resolution.

Investigates employee and student complaints of discrimination in an effort
to assess and recommend appropriate remedial, corrective action when deemed
necessary.

Gathers information requested by state or federal equal opportunity
investigative agencies or affirmative action compliance agencies and makes
recommendations for possible resolution of problem areas.

Responsible for managing and monitoring the recruitment, selection and
retention of individuals in faculty, administrative/professional and
classified staff positions to ensure compliance with E.O. laws and A.A.
obligations.

Responsible for all aspects of UTMB's compliance with the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA); this includes policy initiatives, compliance
activities as they relate to the hospitals, clinics, schools and the
institution generally.

Represents UTMB in professional organizations on issues dealing with EEO
matters, particularly ADA issues.

Ensures appropriate management and internal controls are in place and
provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance with respect to ADA
obligations.

Leads, manages, and develops staff.

Provides assistance to the Academic, Business and Clinical Affairs
Affirmative Action Advisory Committees, to increase and enhance support of
the office activities, EEO/AA policies and procedures and other activities
sponsored by the office.

Assists in designing and conducting training programs.

Assists in designing a diversity program for the university community.

Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms
to monitor and enforce compliance.

Performs related duties as required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social
Sciences or related field required. Five years related experience, 3 of which
must be in the area of equal opportunity/affirmative action. Must have working
knowledge of preparing affirmative action program with goals and timetable.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Possess a technical background relative to EEO/Affirmative Action
laws and regulations

Comprehensive knowledge of the ADA as it pertains to Universities
and Hospitals.

Ability to prepare and analyze data that is relevant for analyzing
the workforce and compensation issues.

Leadership and management skills sufficient to direct and develop
staff.

Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and
problem solving skills.
-
Competent professional who knows how to interact with a variety of
individuals including, staff, faculty, administrators and federal and state
EEO specialists.
