JOB SUMMARY:
Provides the ability to identify and fulfill institutional customer needs and
develop them into an Institutional, System and State defined Master plan, and to
communicate the Facilities Design and Development information to the customer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develops the strategic
planning concepts for the implementation of the UTMB master plan, including
property acquisition.
- Develops and
coordinates information management policies and procedures related to real
property inventory and space utilization of the campus facilities.
- Coordinates the
development of institutional space requirements and utilization policies and
procedures.
- Conducts planning
design and programming and the archival of documents for completed projects.
- Prepares departmental
presentation data for existing or future facilities program studies, special
or specific projects or other related tasks as required.
- Develops and maintains
Risk Management strategies for current role descriptions as appropriate.
- Coordinates the UTMB
capital facility improvement and replacement programs.
- Prepares/administers
professional contracts.
- Interacts with project
teams, outside consultants and customers.
- Stays abreast of
current facility products and services.
- Conducts the space
surveys in accordance with required standards and procedures, working with
the appropriate faculty and staff to ascertain current utilization of the
space assigned to their department as required.
- Evaluates general
contractors and Architects/Engineers in relation to projects within the
responsibility of this role.
- Verifies that the
preliminary budget and schedule are consistent with the initial project
intent.
- Adheres to all UTMB
commissioning guidelines.
- Defines and programs
initial project intent and preliminary budget including space utilization
requirements, equipment lists and adjacency requirements concluding with the
commissioning handoff to the appropriate capital project team.
- Learn new computer
software, as the position requires.
- Assists in the
recycling of various materials or products used in the planning process.
- Continuous
professional development and related activities toward maintaining a current
facility knowledge base in the Academic, Research and Medical areas of
expertise.
- Requires the ability
to identify and fulfill institutional customer needs into an Institutional,
System and State defined Master plan, and to communicate the Facilities
Design Development information to the customer.
- Assists with the
capital planning and budgeting process, helps develop long term facilities
strategies and communicates with internal and external stakeholders,
focusing on the continued success of the institution.
- Assists in the
preparation of the UTMB Capital Improvement Plan, the THECB Campus Master
Plan and any other special studies, reports, proposals or specialized data
analysis regarding UTMB facilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent,
and 5 years experience.
EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.
