Job Summary:
To provide supervision of the activities of all regularly assigned computer
operations personnel, on a shift basis, on the operation of electronic computing
equipment and the processes associated with their use. Manages projects as
assigned by operations manager.
Major Duties / Critical Tasks:
- Plans projects, prioritizes tasks and supervises employees within the
computer console and I/O areas as necessary to insure that required tasks are
completed in the time frame specified, and processing downtime is kept to a
minimum.
- Conducts and/or provides input to employee performance appraisals as
required.
- Prepares daily status report to senior management, especially including
those events that might impact IS service levels.
- Executes, monitors, and performs recovery on Mainframe batch production
and VAX job streams according to schedule provided in the time frame
specified.
- Monitors, understands and reacts to all system messages on various
computing platforms as necessary to insure that all required tasks are
completed within time frame specified.
- Routinely displays extensive knowledge of commands necessary to perform
day-to-day operations, including but not limited to commands for JCL, CICS,
VTAM, CSAR, MVS/OS390, JES2, VMS, MS-DOS and in-house monitoring systems.
- Provides updates to written documentation, logs and training procedures
for operations personnel.
- Participates in meetings, coaches employees, and at the request of senior
management or on own initiative, provides input on improving data center
processes or procedures.
- Supervises the performance of equipment maintenance by contractors.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related field and one year related
experience. Equipment:
Mainframe, mid-range and Intel based servers
