JOB SUMMARY:

To monitor and control one or more mainframe, mid-range or Intel based servers by operating the central console and coordinating problem resolutions; and to monitor and oversee the execution of batch jobs within a large-scale computer system.  

MAJOR DUTIES/CRITICAL TASKS:

·        Executes, monitors, and performs recovery on Mainframe batch production and VAX job streams according to schedule provided in the time frame specified.

·        Monitors, understands, and reacts to all system messages on various computing platforms as necessary to insure that all required tasks are completed within time frame specified.

·        Identifies, reports and assists in correcting computing hardware problems to insure that downtime is kept to a minimum.

·        Routinely displays extensive knowledge of commands necessary to perform day-to-day operations, including but not limited to commands for JCL, CICS, VTAM, CSAR, MVS/OS390, JES2, MS-Windows, and in-house monitoring systems.

·        Assists shift supervisor with daily status report preparation and, in the absence of the shift supervisor, assumes responsibility for supervising shift operations and reporting daily activities to senior management, especially those events that might impact IS service levels.

·        Assists where needed including, but not limited to I/O area, report deliveries, and scheduling area at the request of supervisor or manager.

·        Provides phone support to end users, programming staff, technical support staff and operations personnel.

·        Provides updates to written documentation, logs and training procedures for operations personnel.

·        Assists in training new operators.

·        Assumes responsibility for assigned resources in absence of Shift Supervisor. 

·        Maintains operating records such as machine performance and production reports.

·        Participates as a team member.

·        Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

·        Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 

Associate’s degree or equivalent and no experience necessary

EQUIPMENT:

Mainframe, mid-range, and Intel based servers  

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Standard office environment
